Rough Age announces “It Doesn’t Bother Me”

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    September 30, 2026

Richmond band follows Entertainment with a song that brings its heaviest and most melodic instincts into focus.

RICHMOND, Va. — Rough Age will release “It Doesn’t Bother Me” in October 2026, its first new music since 2025’s Entertainment. The six-song record on Hilltop Recordings also drew a premiere from The Auricular and warm local coverage for its guitar bite and immediate choruses. Where Entertainment laid out the band’s references, the new single makes them collide.

    THE SONG

Rough Age has never hidden its influences: ’90s indie rock, grunge, shoegaze, punk, and power pop all have a place in its songs. Even as the hook grows on “It Doesn’t Bother Me,” the band leaves the noise and angles intact. Still, the chorus is unabashedly pop; the guitars keep their teeth.

“Entertainment was us figuring out how to make all those influences sit in the same room,” says vocalist and guitarist Coldon Martin. “This time we weren’t looking for the Rough Age sound. We already had it. We wanted to turn it up—the weight, the hooks, and the space between them.”

After contributing to Entertainment, Case Graham of Richmond band Glossing is now a permanent member of Rough Age. Together, she and Martin shaped the new song around the pull between paranoia and catharsis. Martin’s lyric has an uneasy, half-defiant center. In turn, Graham’s voice pulls that tension outward. Then the bridge opens into shoegaze before the band drives back into the chorus, where a pop melody meets its heaviest playing.

“We weren’t afraid to let the chorus get sugary,” Martin says. “But if the edges disappear, it stops sounding like us. Case and I wanted the paranoia and the catharsis in the same song.”

    THE RECORD

The single was recorded with engineer Pedro Aida, whose Richmond credits include Ann Beretta, Positive No, and Dead Fame. Since several members of Rough Age had worked with him before, they knew he could keep the melody intact when the guitars got loud. After the session, Richmond engineer Andreas Magnusson mastered the track.
