Four Rough Age musicians standing against a pale brick wall

Rough Age

Rough Age is Coldon Martin, Case Graham, James Hoffer, and Jake Ashley. We’re a Richmond guitar band raised on ’90s indie rock, grunge, and power pop. We like the hook to survive the noise.

Blank Eyes, Drifting, and Entertainment came before It Doesn’t Bother Me. The new single, recorded with Pedro Aida, is louder in some places and quieter in others. That contrast is what we kept coming back to.

Coldon writes the songs and sings them; Case adds a second voice and another point of view. James and Jake hold it together. That mix is what makes Rough Age feel like a band rather than one person’s list of records. We care about choruses, but we also like a song that can turn rough around the edges without losing its shape.

Before this single, we put out Blank Eyes, Drifting, and Entertainment. Each follows one idea: a melody should be strong enough to survive whatever we throw around it. Entertainment brought our references fully into the open. With It Doesn’t Bother Me, Case is a permanent part of the lineup and those references feel less like separate ingredients. We know how we want to sound together now.
