Coldon Martin singing It Doesn’t Bother Me in the vocal room

About the Song

The title, It Doesn’t Bother Me, is an ordinary sentence. It can be true, a joke, or a bad lie. We liked not knowing which. The lyric leaves room for that uncertainty instead of filling in every blank.

We kept the melody direct and let the rest of the band complicate it. As the guitars and volume shift, the same words start to sound different. That relationship mattered more to us than telling a complete story.

We wanted a chorus you could sing without making the rest of the song too easy to pin down.

We were interested in the gap between what the singer says and what the music gives away. The title sounds like somebody trying to shut a conversation down. It might be sincere for a moment. But we wanted the band to keep moving underneath it, so the certainty never quite holds.

Case and Coldon worked through the vocal parts together. When her voice enters, It Doesn’t Bother Me feels less like a thought and more like an argument in the open. We didn’t want to explain the feeling away. We wanted that release to be felt, even if the words stay guarded.
